I would see no reason to discard any of them, as I might want to go back later with future improved software to do additional tweaks. In my workflow, I would save the original jpg and RAW from the camera, the DNG created by DxO PureRAW, any further changes by additional RAW editing program(s) and the final jpg output. I decided some years ago to not be concerned about storage space, so that is not an issue for me. I shoot a lot of 4K video and also use a Sony A7RIV. I'm not familiar with PL4 Elite, and do not really want to learn another program, which is why DxO DeepPrime looks so good to me - it automatically does the excellent NR and de-Bayering, lens correction, etc., allowing me to do further editing, if warranted, in another program of my choice.īy the way, I have dozens of TB available at my desk with multiple backups at that location and additional backups at an offsite location. In addition to the time investment, there will be a financial cost as well.Īre you saying that if use PL4 Elite, applying the DeepPrime NR and lens corrections, it would automatically create a smaller DNG file than the one created by DxO PureRAW? Or are you saying that with PL4 Elite I could decide what NR and individual lens corrections I want to apply, resulting in a smaller DNG file? I want the NR and lens corrections, and I want to do further RAW editing and final conversion to jpg in another program or programs, such as Luminar AI, or RawPower, etc. But, keep all of this in mind when contemplating your future workflow. The cost of hard drive storage is pretty cheap these days. If you ever wanted to redo the process you would have to start from scratch. You would still have your original raw file, but will have lost the edit steps required to get to the JPG. You could massage the DNG file in your choice of editor, then export that image as a JPG and delete the DNG. Depending on the number of photos you take every month/year, that might be significant. IOW, a raw file of about 21 MB (from an RX10M4) and a DNG file about 76 MB. A DNG file created with DeepPrime NR and lens corrections will be roughly 4 times the size of the original raw file. The reason for being selective about files is the size. It may not be something you want to do as a routine workflow. I do the same thing as PureRaw by using PL4 Elite. It looks like DxO PureRAW automates a lot of the initial/routine work of editing RAW images, and you can then use your favorite editor once that is done. In the future I'll probably shoot RAW and JPG. I generally shoot JPG, but make note of those situations in which it is advantageous to shoot RAW. ![]() With DxO PureRAW2, you get access to DxO's widely acclaimed lens and camera modules based on more than fifteen years of rigorous lab testing.I already downloaded and have experimented with it and will probably buy it.
